About
Dr. Mark Crowley is a distinguished Research Fellow in Modern British History at Wuhan University, China. He studied his BScEcon (Hons) at Cardiff University in Politics and Modern History before moving to Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University to pursue a M.St in Modern History, researching Unemployment and the Unemployment Assistance Board in the 1930s under the supervision of Dr. John Stevenson. He then moved to the Centre for Contemporary British History, Institute of Historical Research, where he was awarded an Arts and Humanities Collaborative Doctoral Award in British Postal History, and researched the role of women workers in the General Post Office, 1939-1945 under the supervision of Professor Pat Thane and Dr. Adrian Steel.
Dr. Crowley has presented over 30 conference papers at national and international conferences, and has published numerous works based on his research, for which he has also received awards from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Political Studies Association and the Royal Historical Society.
Before moving to China, Dr. Crowley worked as an Associate Lecturer at Cardiff University, teaching British Politics (2nd year 30 credit module) and a 20 credit final year module (co-convened with Dr. Rosanne Palmer) on Wales, Devolution and Multi-Level Governance in the UK. He also contributed to the MA in Contemporary British History at the Institute of Historical Research. He has served on numerous committees, including the Institute of Historical Research Advisory Council (2008-2009), and was convenor of the Lifecycles and Lifestyles strand of the Social History Society from 2008-2010.
